As technology advances, so does the amount of scams and dishonest people who show up on the Internet. All parents hope they raised their kids right, and that their children will have enough common sense to be on the computer for good reasons. Sadly, this isn’t always the case. It’s up to the parents to monitor their children’s internet usage. Here are four simple ways to make sure your kids are doing what’s right online:
Use the Parental Controls
Some parents shy away from this because they want to trust their kids, but curiosity is a dangerous thing. Don’t let your child become their own worst enemy. With parental controls, a parent can closely monitor what their kids are doing by blocking websites that don’t meet the standards the parents have set out. You know your kid wont probably won’t be compelled to look up auto insurance quotes.
Password Protect
There are kids who get home from school well before you do. Don’t let them run wild on the Internet before you even walk in the door. Put a password on the computer so you have to unlock it for them. This way you will know exactly when your kids are getting online, and you will know when they have been online too much.
Keep the Computer in an Open Space
Don’t let a kid have the computer in their room. Put it in the dining room or the living room. A kid is far less likely to get into trouble if he feels like he is being watched or that you could come by at any moment.
Ban Social Media Sites
Make a rule that you have to have the password info for social sites, or ban them altogether. Once a kid is eighteen, you have to let the reigns off a bit. Until them, it is your job to protect them.
